Illustrations of Anne Spencer in various phases of her life: a young mother with an infant (left), a middle-aged woman holding a piece of paper and pen, and an elderly woman gazing to the left (center). The figures are in front a robin egg's blue lattice intertwined with flowers and vines.

Anne Spencer: I Am Here!

Celebrating the life and legacy of Anne Spencer—Harlem Renaissance poet; civil rights activist; librarian and educator; avid reader and prolific writer. Her devotion to her craft, family, community, garden, and home of over seven decades situated on Pierce Street in Lynchburg, Virginia, shines through her archive housed here at the University of Virginia Library.
